Allergies range from the mild and transient to the chronic and disabling, and in some patients can be acute and life threatening. In fact, allergic problems in the US are the sixth leading common cause of chronic disease.

An estimated 40 to 50 million Americans suffer from allergies. Allergies are the 6th leading cause of chronic disease in the United States. It costs the health care system $18 billion annually.

Allergies can affect anyone. Generally, allergies are more common in children, however, a first-time occurrence can happen at any age, or recur after many years of remission.
